Our goal is to take 20 youth from Detroit to explore Africa because it allows them to connect with their cultural roots, expand their worldview, and develop a strong sense of pride in who they are. We chose Malawi because our deep, trusted relationships there will give The Brown Explorers a rare opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the culture and community.
During the trip, Detroit youth participants will:
* Engage in community service projects alongside Malawian youth and educators
* Participate in cultural exchanges that highlight shared heritage and global connection
* Take part in leadership and personal development workshops focused on confidence, purpose, and identity
* Explore the beauty of Africa with tours and Safaris.
We will not be able to make this trip a reality without community support. Please click on the link below to donate and support our future leaders.

In the makings since 2015, The Brown Explorers officially launched in 2022 with programming beginning in January 2023. The founder, a black woman whose life has been changed by travel, was tired of being consistently slapped in the face with the lack of black presence when she traveled abroad with her children. She decided to start The Brown Explorers because our culture is underrepresented in travel and overrepresented in so many negative areas such as poverty, single parent households, substance misuse, etc. Traveling increased confidence, self-worth, risk taking, and overall quality of life, which our youth deserve!

To provide meaningful and exciting travel experiences for Black youth in Metro Detroit while expanding access to and an understanding of the world’s possibilities both locally and abroad.
